Upcoming committee hearings for first week of session

Several important committee meetings are scheduled so far for the first week of session.

1. The Natural Resources & Marine Waters in the state senate will be holding a Hearing on Puget Sound Dungeness Crab Management on Thursday, January 13th, 2011, in Senate Hearing Room 2. (Cherbourg Bldg.) The hearing will begin at 1:30pm.

Participants for the crab management hearing will include WDFW, A report from the auditors that did the Crab management audit, Recreational and Commercial Crab stakeholders, and tribes.

The focus of the crab management hearing will be an update on activity since last year’s session. WDFW will give a report on their progress and activity to date concerning the implementation of policy changes recently made by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission concerning non-treaty crab fishing. The stakeholders will give there perspective on the the progress made to date.

2. Following thee crab management hearing, the committee will also cover marine spatial planning. Two tribal representatives testified in a similar hearing on marine spatial planning last fall.

3. Also worth noting is a hearing by the House Agriculture & Natural Resources committee on Governor’s Office natural resources agencies merger proposal. Here is a policy brief that outlines the governor’s consolidation plan.

Public Hearing: HB 1009 – Concerning the authority of certain state agencies to enter into agreements with the federal government under the endangered species act. (If measure is referred to committee.)
